A collection of personal stories from people with deafblindness and the families who support them, told with honesty, dignity and hope.
Sense International India had been a Firefly client for over a decade. During this long association, we created many films and communication projects for awareness, documentation and fundraising. Much of this work brought us close to people with deafblindness, their families, educators and caregivers.
This book grew from that shared understanding. It brought together stories of children and adults living with deafblindness across India. Parents spoke about receiving a diagnosis, finding support and learning new ways to communicate. Young people shared their experiences of education, relationships, work and growing independence.
These were not stories about disability alone. They were about family, patience, determination and the need to be understood. They also showed how the right support can open access to learning, communication and a fuller life.
The design needed to remain sensitive without becoming sombre. Photographs and personal accounts were given space to breathe. A clear editorial structure connected many different voices while allowing every story to retain its own character.
The book became both a record and a means of outreach. It helped readers understand deafblindness through lived experience rather than facts alone. Most importantly, it placed people and their voices at the centre.
